BPO discussed the EU budget for transport infrastructure in European Parliament

Baltic ports met in European Parliament to discuss the EU budget for transport infrastructure thanks to Anne E. Jensen, Member of EP, who was a host of lunch debate organized on 19 of March. Janusz Lewandowski, the commissioner for EU budget who was present at the debate, presented the political process for EU budget for next period of 2014-2020. He mentioned that, when it comes to financing the infrastructure development in Europe there is a need to invite the private parties for co-finance the projects. However; Lewandowski stated that involvement of private capital specifically in transport infrastructure project is more difficult than e.g. in energy projects. Therefore; despite that cuts in the EU budget and specifically in Connecting Europe Facility’s tool, Commission plans to secure public (EU) funds to finance TEN-T infrastructure.
