GENERAL INFORMATION
«Ust-Luga Company» JSC is an industrial developer. The largest project being currently implemented by «Ust-Luga Company» is the construction of Ust-Luga merchant seaport. The port is situated in the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea, 147 km from St. Petersburg and 36 km from the EU border. Today there are six terminals operating at the port: sulphur terminal, universal cargo terminal, coal terminal, Multipurpose terminal Yug-2, auto-railway ferry complex, and factor forestry terminal. Next year it is planned to make operational an oil products terminal (investor - Gunvor), сrude oil terminal , BTS-2 endpoint (investor - Transneft), container terminal (investor – NCC).
The coal transshipment complex of Ust-Luga port (investor: “Kuzbassrazrezugol Coal Company” JSC) is one of the most advanced complexes in the world. It is equipped with an unparalleled automated system of raw materials pickup and sorting. The terminal is now capable of handling up to 600 cars per day. Its throughput capacity exceeds the standard norms of the leading western ports and amounts to 12 mln. tons of coal per year. The universal transshipment complex (owner: CNP Investments) is designed for receipt, storage and export shipment of general and bulk cargoes: iron-ore pellets, cast iron bars and scrap metal, outsize and heavy cargo as well as construction materials and equipment. The rated cargo turnover is 3 mln. tons per year. The sulphur transshipment complex (investor: Interfinance SA) is designed for transshipment of block sulphur, sulphur pellets, flake and ground sulphur from railway to maritime transport. The throughput capacity of the complex is 9 mln. tons per year. The oil products complex (investor: Gunvor) is designed for receipt, accumulation of shiploads lots and export shipment of dark and light oil products delivered to the port by railway in the volume of 10 mln. tons per year and for shipment of crude oil delivered by pipeline transport (BPS-2).
The auto-railway ferry complex (investor: the Russian Federation) is a part of the West – East transport corridor. The complex is designed for receipt and handling of railway, motorcar and auto-passenger ferries along the line of Ust-Luga – Baltiysk – German ports. The throughput capacity is 2.9 mln. tons of cargo per year. The factor forestry terminal specializes in timber cargo transshipment. By 2015 the transshipment volume of the terminal is to reach 2.5 mln. tons of timber and piece cargo per year. The Multipurpose transshipment complex Yug-2 (investor: Ust-Luga Company JSC with the attracted resources of the RF IF) is designed for transshipment of rolling machinery, container and general cargoes of various nomenclature. The complex is designed for transshipment of rolling machinery, mostly new motorcars as well as containers and general cargoes. When the terminal reaches its design capacity, it will transship over 4.6 mln. tons of export-import cargoes per year.
There are plans to build a warehousing logistic center (WLC) in the immediate proximity to the port. The center will ensure more intensive development and higher throughput capacity and will also produce a synergy effect for all terminals of the southern part of Ust-Luga port. The construction of an liquefied hydrocarbon gas and light oil product transshipment complex (investor - SIBUR) and a gas condensate terminal (investor - Novatek) are in full swing. An agreement has been signed to build a mineral fertiliser transhipment terminal (investor - EuroChem). Negotiations are in progress with major Russian companies to construct grain and rolled metal transhipment terminals at Ust-Luga. At present, Ust-Luga port is the fastest developing port in the Russian Federation. The volume of cargo transhipment has grown by 21.6% over the past six months. After reaching its full capacity in 2018, the port will handle around 180 million tons of various cargoes. This year, in view of the port’s growth rate and demand for human resources, a subsidiary of «Ust-Luga Company» JSC is launching the construction of a new city for 34, 500 residents for the port workers and their families. In addition, «Ust-Luga Company» JSC is carrying out design work to develop an industrial area next to the new port.
