Baltic Ports Organization has published the Baltic Seaports Outlook 2008.

The main aim of The Baltic Seaports Outlook 2008 is to present and evaluate the current economic situation in the Baltic Sea countries as well as the development of the Baltic seaborne trade, maritime transport and consequently the seaports sector.

The key internal and external factors influencing the seaports sector and its development in the Baltic region in 2007 have been identified and analyzed by the authors. The main threats and opportunities, with respect to the seaports, have been pointed out and some conclusions as well as recommendations concerning their development in the very uncertain economic environment have been presented as at the end of 2008. In this sense, The Baltic Seaports Outlook 2008 is considered as a working study addressing a majority of the above-mentioned Baltic ports’ issues.

“We do hope that The Baltic Seaports Outlook 2008 will be, alike the first one of 2007, a helpful and useful source of information and basic knowledge for the port authorities – members of BPO and other seaports as well as for terminal operators, shipowners, shippers and other stakeholders in their everyday activities and operations,” say the authors.
The Baltic Seaports Outlook 2008 may be perceived as a signalling indicator informing the whole seaports sector in the Baltic Sea Region about the possible challenges and upcoming threats, which should be properly recognized, anticipated and avoided. In this sense, the report may also allow the whole port sector to better prepare itself for the already ongoing slowdown in BSR’s economies and upcoming recession in many EU countries that might seriously affect this sector in the future.

The BSO is available to order for 120 EUR. If you are interested in a pdf version of the report please contact the BPO Secretariat.

The Baltic Seaports Outlook was carried out by the Gdynia Maritime University.
