International Conference on Maritime Innovation 2009
To tackle environmental challenges and promote economic growth in the Baltic Sea Region - these two ambitious objectives are at the core of the Baltic Sea Strategy that the EU aims to present under the Swedisch European Council Presidency in the second half of 2009. This must be welcomed. An approach combining ecological and economical interests can produce an outcome far more effective than a whole set of single policies. However, the current debate on the environmental impact of maritime transport falls short of being ecologically and economically reasonable. A "one-size-fits-all" solution is not enough to cater for the requirements of the Baltic Sea Region and our dominant Short Sea Shipping sector. Specific solutions and innovative approaches for the Baltic Sea region must be found. What could they look like?
The "International Conference on Martime Innovation 2009" is being organised by the Baltic Sea Forum to find answers to these important questions and Port of Rostock is a co-organizer. It takes place on Tuesday, 9th June 2009 between 10.00 - 16.00 h at Steigenberger Hotel Sonne, Neuer Markt 2, 18055 Rostock.
