Polskie LNG was established in 2007 by Polish Gas and Oil Company PGNiG (PGNiG SA).
Pursuant to the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of 19 August 2008, Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. (GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.) became the owner of Polskie LNG sp. z o.o., a company owned by the State Treasury responsible for the security of natural gas supplies via transmission pipelines. On 8 December 2008, 100% of the shares of Polskie LNG were acquired by GAZ-SYSTEM S.A, and on 1 January 2010, Polskie LNG Ltd. was transformed into a public limited company (PLC.)
Polskie LNG S.A. encompasses the operation and development of the facility, promoting LNG market in Poland and in the region, as well as further development and providing the clients with new services related to liquefied natural gas. The establishment of the terminal contributed to the increased energy security in Poland as well as the countries of Central-Eastern Europe; moreover, it enabled the import of liquefied natural gas to Poland from any direction in the world.
The processes currently handled and services rendered at the terminal include the following:
- LNG unloading from the vessel at the unloading berth
- LNG process storage in tanks
- LNG regasification and send-out to the National Transmission System
- LNG loading into road tankers and ISO tank containers
