Port of Helsinki and Metsä Fibre Oy to prepare pulp exports of Äänekoski bioproduct mill through Vuosaari Harbour

The Port of Helsinki and Metsä Fibre Oy have signed a letter of intent to develop Vuosaari as the export harbour of pulp produced at the planned new bioproduct mill in Äänekoski.

The Port of Helsinki will reserve the needed space and other resources in order to enable the export traffic – the readiness is already in place.

Extra traffic through the Port of Helsinki is most welcome. As a modern logistic centre, the harbour in Vuosaari offers efficient possibilities to handle this traffic, which increases the entire export traffic from Finland. This letter of intent will impact the Finnish community in diverse ways by revitalizing the economic life.

We estimate that this extra traffic may create up to 100 jobs in different parts of the logistic chain. Metsä Fibre Oy mentioned 800 000 tonnes, which would mean an increase of approximately 10% in the traffic of Vuosaari harbour in Helsinki, if realized”, says Kimmo Mäki, Managing Director of the Port of Helsinki. “This is one of the biggest increases in business that we have seen for some years. We have many reasons to be content.”
