Stockholm and Tallinn's shared environmental goals

Ports of Stockholm and Tallinn will cooperate on a new agreement regarding e.g. LNG as ship fuel, ship-generated waste management and ship-to-shore electricity.

In order to minimize the effects of port operations and shipping on the BSR as well as improve the marine environment in the Baltic Sea, the two ports will cooperate in three areas: jointly supporting opportunities for bunkering of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) at both ports; investigating possibilities to supply electricity from the shore to more vessels operating regular services, and strengthening efforts to improve ship-generated waste reusing and recycling. The ports have experience in cooperating with other harbours – Stockholm has worked in an equivalent way with the Port of Helsinki since 2009 and Turku since 2011. Tallinn has been cooperating extensively together with the Port of Helsinki with several joint initiatives in various areas, incl. environmental cooperation projects.
