BPC 2016 – a quarter century of teamwork and development

On September 8-9th, 2016, members and guests of the Baltic Ports Organization (BPO) will meet at the Baltic Ports Conference 2016 in Helsinki, to celebrate BPO's 25th anniversary and discuss the role of the Baltic Sea region as a role model for clean ports and shipping.

Sustainability and climate consciousness are currently some of the most important issues for the transport industry. It is not a coincidence that the BPC 2016 will focus on topics concerned with ports in pursuit of sustainable solutions, shipowners looking for zero emissions and Baltic environmental regulations.

“(...) I believe it’s time to promote the Baltic’s high technical, organisational, corporate, but more importantly, environmental standards in Europe, and maybe even in other parts of the world,” said Julian Skelnik, the BPO Chairman.

Year 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of BPO, filling the members not only with joy but also with a feeling of readiness to confidently tackle the multiple challenges lying ahead. Further strengthening of regional cooperation remains, besides the state of the economy and trade in the Baltic Sea region, one of BPO's top priorities. Participants will also examine the shipping and port market and cast a closer look at the topic of comprehensive ports and port regulations.

“This year’s 25th anniversary Conference will summarize the past, but first of all talk about the future of the region and of the port industry. Our guests, people who have had a decisive influence on today’s shape of Northern Europe, together with port experts and scientists will try to determine and predict the future of the Baltic region,” added Skelnik.

BPC 2016 will be hosted by the Ports of Helsinki and HaminaKotka. The event will take place at the Grand Marina Congress Center, located in the heart of Helsinki city. A tour of the Port of Helsinki will be available on the second day of the conference.

The anniversary will be celebrated at an official gala dinner. The venue chosen for the gala is the Sipuli Restaurant.
